SPYL

Overview
SPYL was my final project that I designed as the main part of my final year of university. It involved a whole product development with a product and research report to accompany the main product. Full product renders were presented at an end of year show with a 3D model prototype completed too.
Brief
The brief of my final project was to carry out research for problems in areas or environments that we were familiar with. Taking this research we would then have to design a product or device to solve the problems we found.
As I had a job in a pub and already knew of prior problems I had, I found this an ideal place to research.

Problem
As a renowned real ale public house, a common and costly problem found was the amount of beer being wasted by taking cask barrels off prematurely. Part of this problem was also the uncertainty of when barrels were close to finishing, especially at busy times.
Solution
To solve this issue, I designed a product that will ensure the user knows what is left in a barrel at all times. This is done through the use of infrared proximity sensors that measure the level of the beer in the cask barrel. The data is presented to the user on a phone application where they can see how much is left in the barrel. The design also helps with stock taking and improves stock regulation.

New Designers 2019

My degree final project was finalised with being part of the 15 students selected to showcase at New Designers 2019. This was an invaluable experience, networking and meeting professionals from the industry whilst observing the other great work there.
